Five More Black Friday Sales

image

I don’t know if anyone actually does Black Friday anymore. It seems like all the sales drop a few days before. Last night, five new sales popped up in my inbox – the best of which is probably Mr. Porter, although Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, and LL Bean are also great if you’re looking for something more traditional (more info below). Some notable things I found last night while going through the sites:

Mr. Porter: The obvious favorite for most people. In the last few years, Mr. Porter has become one of the largest online shops for high-end men’s clothing. The problem is getting through that inventory – especially during sale season when things move quickly. My usual strategy is to comb through their designer list; then browse through the broader categories (e.g. shirts, outerwear, shoes, etc) and filter by size. The first lets me hone in on things I like, while the second allows for more serendipitous finds.

Interestingly, Mr. Porter has discounted a lot of stuff this season that’s normally excluded from promotions, including shoes from John Lobb, J.M. Weston, Edward Green, George Cleverley, and Viberg. I was really tempted by some of those Edward Greens last night. Other lines I like:

Two Great Labor Day Sales

image

Couple of really good Labor Day sales happening this weekend. The first is at Man of the World, where you can take 50% off select items with the checkout code TAKE50. Most of what’s included is home furnishing, but there are also sport coats, dress shirts, and vacation wear. The two stars of the show, however, might be the Edward Green shoes (which come down to about $600 after the discount) and GlobeTrotter luggage (just north of $1,100). Hard to ever find those things on sale – nevermind 50% off.

The other is No Man Walks Alone, who’s having a 20% off sale on all tailored clothing (i.e. suits, sport coats, dress shirts, tailored trousers, and ties). I wrote a post earlier this year about how I think Sartoria Formosa is one of the best values right now in ready-to-wear. Made to bespoke standards and comes in a flattering cut (softly tailored with a little drape in the chest). With the $100 tailoring credit and 20% discount, sport coats start around $1,000, suits $1,500.

The G. Inglese shirts are also some of the best I’ve seen anywhere in terms of value. Not cheap, but they have great collars and an impressive amount of handwork. Rota trousers come with a slim leg line, but medium to high rise (a combination that’s hard to find nowadays in ready-to-wear). I also love Drake’s ties, but was really impressed with Tie Your Tie, Bigi, and Calabrese at the last No Man Walks Alone trunk show.

End’s Spring Sale (Includes Barbour)

image

When it rains, it pours. End just started their end-of season sale, where you can take 25% off select items with the checkout code SALEPREVIEW. There are some exclusions (the code won’t work on Common Projects or already marked-down inventory, for example), but it applies to most of the store.

Perhaps the most exciting inclusion: Barbour, where export restrictions have now been lifted. For the last two years, Barbour hasn’t allowed EU retailers to ship to the US (mostly as a way to protect their other distributors). End confirmed with me this morning, however, that US orders are now fine and the code applies to mainline models such as the Bedale and Beaufort. If you need more info about how the jackets differ, refer to the Barbour buying guide I wrote for Put This On

I also like Margiela’s German Army Trainers. They’re little old-hat at this point for style enthusiasts, but easy to wear and incredibly versatile. Additionally, Inis Meain, Inverallan, and SNS Herning make wonderful sweaters, while Nigel Cabourn and Mackintosh are always good for outerwear (I like especially like Cabourn’s Surface and Aircraft jackets). Filson’s canvas bags are also really useful.

Mr. Porter Sale Starts

image

Mr. Porter’s end-of-season sale is always one of the most exciting sales events. Where else can you find marked-down Drake’s ties and John Lobb shoes being sold alongside discounted casualwear items from Aspesi, Camoshita, and Kapital?

This morning, they dropped prices on their spring/ summer inventory by 30% to 50%. For a thorough browse, go to their sale page and filter by sizes. That won’t capture some of the Japanese brands – where you sometimes have to size up – but it’s a nice way to serendipitously find things you may not have considered otherwise. I’ve also rounded up some of my favorite items below:

Brooks Brothers $200 Off $500 Sale

image

Brooks Brothers is having one of their better sales I’ve seen in a while. At the moment, you can take $200 off any order over $500 (or $100 off any order over $300) with the checkout code BCSP15.

The sale is notable for a few reasons. First, it applies to everything – including items that are normally excluded from promotions, such as shell cordovan and Edward Green shoes. Second, unless you’re purchasing a suit, you can count on a bigger discount than you’d otherwise get through their 25% off Friends and Family sale. Add to that free shipping and things get pretty nice.

This would be a good time to pick up a pair of their higher-end shoes, which are typically made by either Crockett & Jones or Alden. I particularly like these unlined chukkas, suede cap-toe boots, and lightweight tie loafers. I also use these shell cordovan boots all the time during the fall and winter months, as they go well with just about anything.

Ralph Lauren’s Mid-Season Sale

image

Ralph Lauren started their mid-season sale this week. You can take 30% off select items with the checkout code RLFAM30. There are some pretty good deals floating around, particularly if you’re able to combine the promotion with the already-discounted items in their sale section. Some things I found last night while browsing the site:

Mr. Porter’s Fall/ Winter Sale

Mr. Porter just started their end-of-season sale, with discounts of up to 50% on select items. Lots of familiar labels, such as Drake’s, Common Projects, and Red Wing, as well as a number of not-often-discounted brands such as William Lockie and George Cleverley. Some notables that I found last night:

End’s Fall/ Winter Sale Starts

End is probably the only online retailer that rivals Mr. Porter in scope and quality. Today, they start their end-of-season sale. Take 25% off across the board with the checkout code SALEPREVIEW. Some notables:

Brooks Brothers’ Shoe Sale

image

Brooks Brothers is having a great one-day sale today on footwear. Take 40% off select models, with free standard shipping within the United States.

There are some obvious exclusions, such as Edward Green and Red Wing, but much of Brooks Brothers’ house line is produced by top-end makers anyway. Crockett & Jones, for example, made these tie loafers and suede boots, while Alden manufactured these flex-sole bluchers, unlined chukkas, and tassel loafers

Some more affordable deals: Superga sneakers for $39 and SWIMS galoshes for $59. Also, Abbeyhorn shoehorns for about $35, although the discounts don’t seem to show up until you take the items to checkout.

Eight Great Black Friday Sales

image

The great thing about Black Friday these days is that you don’t have to push through crowds in order to score deals. Everything is online. Over at Put This On, I’ll have a roundup of about 150 sales today (I’ll also do a separate list for Cyber Monday). If you’re looking for a more condensed version, however, here are eight of my favorites, along with some notable items at each store.

Mr. Porter: The sale that’s always on top of everyone’s list. Select items have been discounted by 30%, although sometimes the savings only show up on the last page of the checkout process (right before you submit your credit card information). The Cleverley chukkas and Rubinacci pocket square pictured above, for example, show up as full-price on the product page, but they get discounted once you take them to checkout.
