Brunello Cucinelli SS11

I know I already wrote a post about Cucinelli’s SS11 collection, but I also wrote about his factory for Christ’s sake, so you know his lookbook deserves two posts.

Here are some photos from his SS11 catalog, which was shot in Sicily. You see the bomber from previous seasons, which I’ve written about before (and consider to be one of my grail SS jackets). He also has cargo shorts and washed denim, two things that don’t get a lot of attention on the menswear blogosphere, but I’m somewhat coming around to.

There are also two interesting styling issues. The first is the man wearing a polo shirt underneath a blazer (which doesn’t seem to fit him well, incidentally). He also seems to be wearing cargo pants. I’m not convinced this would work for anyone else besides a Cucinelli model in a Cucinelli lookbook shot in Sicily, but so it goes. The other issue is the man wearing a white crewneck t-shirt underneath a v-neck sweater, which is, even by any reasonably liberal view of style, so bad that it’s baffling how that slipped by.

Still, despite that terrible decision, the lookbook is awesome and still one of the better ones released this season.

Oh, and apparently Brunello is thinking about taking the company public. If he does offer shares of the company, I’ll probably have to get mine through careful eBay sniping. Word has it that the stockholder certificates will be printed on Italian cashmere and feature cargo pockets.
