Some Casual Looks at Pitti

I haven’t been following the Pitti Uomo coverage very closely this season. Nick Sullivan posted some interesting photos from Fedeli’s booth, Austin Wong published some of Cucinelli, and this four-pocket field jacket at Moorer looked interesting. Other than that, most of the street style photos were of men that I thought looked a bit silly. Tight clothes, short pants, shorter jackets, and lots of gimmicks.

There were a few street style shots that I found inspiring, however. Perhaps not surprisingly, they were mostly of men I regularly draw inspiration from - Luciano Barbera, Beppe Modenese, Mark Cho, Ethan Desu, and my friend Agyesh Madan at Isaia. Agyesh is the Indian guy you see at the end wearing sunglasses. I especially liked that the photos of him spanned nearly the entire spectrum of casual men’s clothing - from a two-piece single-breasted suit worn without a tie to jeans, a t-shirt, and an M65 jacket. The second of which reminded me yesterday that I need to get some more white t-shirts to wear with my jeans this summer.

Similarly, the other looks here are a bit casual in some form or another. There are long-sleeved polo shirts worn underneath sport coats (and at least one going without), single- and double-breasted suits made in lighter colors or from casual materials such as cotton, floppy knit ties, and the old, reliable odd jacket. Patrick Johnson is perhaps the most formal looking of the bunch, in a navy suit and dark burgundy tie, but it’s knocked down a level with a pair of black tassel loafers worn sockless. All these seem particularly worth mulling on if you lean towards more casual looks, which I imagine is most of us these days.
